Welcome to Sassafras Creek Originals, your source for reproductions
of antique game boards and Traditional American Folk Art. My name is
Kandye Mahurin
and I started Sassafras Creek out of the desire to have antique game boards
in my own home. Due to the difficulty in finding good quality boards at a
reasonable price, I decided to try to make one for myself. Family and friends
began asking for the boards for gifts and the rest, as they say, is history.
Each piece is a marriage of American folk art design and history
and is totally crafted by hand, either by my family members or
myself, therefore no two pieces will ever be alike. I love American
history, especially the colonial period through the Civil War
era. The designs on the game boards and furniture are taken from
symbols, folk art and quilts of that era. I am particularly fond
of the designs used by Pennsylvania Dutch craftsmen and try to
implement that look as well.

All of the game boards are painted on solid pine or cabinet grade,
birch plywood and are handsomely framed. Whenever possible, I
try to use old breadboards, table tops, etc. to paint the game
boards on, however, they are getting harder and harder to obtain.
You will need to e-mail me or give me a call concerning availability
of old boards or you may supply the board yourself and I will
paint on it for you. The prices for games painted on breadboards
will be somewhat higher than the framed version due to the difficulty
it takes to find them. All games come ready to hang and include
playing pieces.
